The Ivymount Instructional Resources Series© is a new Ivymount initiative that will offer a collection of innovative educational resources -- including curricula, assessment tools, and apps -- designed and tested by Ivymount staff to support the success of students with autism spectrum disorders and other learning challenges. Our first publication, due to be released in 2016, will be Conversation Club: Teaching Children with Autism and Social Cognition Challenges to Engage in Successful Conversations with Peers.
The Ivymount Social Cognition Instructional Package (IvySCIP) offers comprehensive, web-based support for social and emotional learning in elementary and middle school-aged students with high-functioning autism spectrum disorders. The IvySCIP is being developed by Ivymount School and 3C Institute with fiscal support from the US Department of Education.
Ivymount School has been an integral part of the Unstuck and On Target! research program at the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Children’s National Medical Center. Unstuck and On Target! is an executive function intervention for children with autism that aims to enhance skill development. Results of a recent survey of this unique curriculum have proven that it is an effective intervention for improving student flexibility and organization skills as well as classroom behaviors for students with autism spectrum disorders. The Teacher’s Manual was released in 2011 and was the effort of five years of collaboration between the Ivymount School and the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders. The Family Manual is currently under publication, and this intervention is being expanded to include middle school students.
